Time to Do More than just a weed a garden

What does weeding the garden, de-cluttering the house and mind have in common?

It's easy to weed the garden and the earth associated with nature's bountiful growth during the summer season. As the final hot summers come to an end, the time to weed your gardens, container gardens, and any secret sacred green spots; it is now. This requires space planning for new planting of perennials, and how many trips to Home Depot or Lowe's for the feed & seed system now? It's well worth it to create an  autumnal harvest growing space along with bulb planting for anticipatory spring splendors.

But; what about the weeding of the clutter of  the physical spaces and Mind? This so include what is going through my state of mind NOW. I've been putting it off; for any number of reasons; until the weather cools, until it feels like Autumn; until the cow jumps over the moon. Yes, endless procrastination reasoning that appear to be reasonably sound.

Well, I've kicked the can down the road as far as I can. Time to step up to the plate and get real with the Weeding and De-Clutter Detail.

It's so easy to get ready for fall's outside arrival... with garden pruning, re-plantings of the annuals for a pop of color. Painting/cleaning windows, varnishing, etc.. and a number of TO DO list outside items that you did not have the day before. All this though making it's way through to an end result I call buttoning up the hearth and home  for the new seasonal approach.

However, what does one do with the mind, that requires the same amount of pre-planning, discipline and de-clutter? The mind requires as many attentions and more; especially the deep seated hidden ones that only YOU know- and the problem is YOU KNOW.

My closets and my mind require attentions but I have to make sure I truly am purging and not just re-arranging! So before I start, I ask a few queries. Start with a few simple self guided questions to ask yourself to de-clutter in one fell swoop.

What can we do to de-clutter the house and mind and still grow with grace? How can we strive to be free of excesses of earthly possessions? If there is a goal in place, and you start from the end seeing only necessary items at hand this is an achievable believable goal.

The goal is of course to breathe serenely while creating an open space, the emptiness of footage, places and items; - a place that just encompasses - pure space and serenity. Recall the joy to empty out and re-arrange the junk drawer? Now, can you magnify that to other places within? Things may appear empty but not void.

Is not the purpose of growing graceful towards a greater state of ease and peace?-without so much Stuff?

What is Grace? Is it a state of mind, an action to an end of pursuit? Is developing grace a state of mercy, forgiveness, a prayer or a certain poise with living a honorable and dignified life? Perhaps finding the balance with poise and considerations?

However, one may view GRACE, it is to me a state to which I find I am inevitably drawn too. It an open-ended loop search; whereas, I may achieve a few splendid blissful moments of grace one day; but the search is head-on full impact next sunrise.

My fall plan of attack is a threefold plan. First, tend and weed the gardens, plant more perennials and ready for fall's splendor to arrive (even if it's 92 out right now). Then, let the major de-clutter project of the house (or I'll say closets) commence. Does not the course of  de-clutter of the mind runs along with in parallel... sort of a start to start relationship? Or perhaps like an operating system (in the background) making it all work smoothly?

Rationale aside, I believe that once jump started with the tending of the garden and house de-clutter, the mind relishes  positive outcomes of the actions of the organizational happenings in concert.

I wish for a California Closet Design; neatly stored, sorted by color, size, season, length.. Ha.. yes; but I'll just start with a closet in a room of a mix of the Four seasons, (and I'm not talking Vivaldi here). My dreaded closet(s). Plural. A few of my closest friends tell me I need a closet intervention. Yes; perhaps they are correct. I do tend to hold onto many items due to the fact that "one might" be needing that again. Do we not all think with sound rationale, what the replacement costs of departing with an item would be?

Granted I believe the art of de-cluttering a closet/room is far easier; but it is not clearly void of emotionalism. Each item require review and decisions to keep, sell, donate, swap, re-cycle.

Fortunately my favorite places to donate to are close at hand:

The Leesburg Shelter for Battered women; http://lcsj.org/
The Good Shepherd Alliance in Ashburn VA;  http://goodshepherdalliance.org/
The Purple Heart Donations; http://www.purpleheartdonations.net/

Even unused, older items do come alive. Be warned though; each item of course to me; has a lifestory, and energy and essence. So make it quick when you fumble the ball with hmm... maybe I will keep... remember; let go; immediately; then it's done. Three piles... and be disciplined to get them in a grouping; that YOU won't go through again. And then, once you let go " it's done".

Next up, the mind. This requires too the same amount of attentions and tending to... daily; to discard the diversions of thoughts with distractions and procrastinations. IT truly is akin to getting rid of the junk mail as soon as it is delivered. Most mail, never makes it past the front door or up the steps... It is almost immediately tended to by my dear T.

It boils down to a simple question that covers the weeding; and clutter of both the home and mind. Does one want to leave a clutter of "stuff" to those that are just not going to be needing or wanted by anyone; including your family?

I don't want to be tripping over "stuff" for the rest of my life, be it physical or emotional. It is however, a commitment to make certain the de-cluttering is just not a one time event. It is a life time of purging. ... and you will be doing yourself and family a favor by doing the proper weeding and decluttering while one is still rationale and clear in mind; attempting a state of grace as one goes.

Namaste.
